Not unexpectedly, Collingwood has decided not to renew the contract of AFLW Head coach Steve Symons

"The Collingwood Football Club and AFLW Senior Coach Steve Symonds have come to a mutual decision to part ways for the 2024 season.

Symonds was appointed as the Club’s second AFLW Senior Coach in June 2019, where he led the side across five seasons and oversaw the VFLW program.

Collingwood Executive General Manager of Football Graham Wright acknowledged the significant contribution of Symonds across his five-season tenure."

Steve was popular with the players but failure to make finals this year sealed his fate. His family is still based in Adelaide, so he lives here without them pre-season and during the season, which was also a consideration for him.

I assume Jess Burger will now handle the upcoming draft & player signings with Graham Wright overseeing.

"Popular with the players" always seems a weak reason to keep a coach.

e.g. Eddie, who parachuted coaches in instead of having proper process, said the only reason to replace a coach was if he'd "lost the players"...

Our failed fitness guy White was also described as "popular with the players".

It's time to bring home Craig Starcevich.

It wasn't the reason they kept the coach.
Mentioned as to say that he hadn't lost the players but club decision based on team performance this season and what the team needs to move forward.

It will be intresitng to see who they get for the job.
I don't know much about many of the current AFLW assistant coaches apart from the Pies.

Chloe McMillan (Pies VFLW coach) may be a candidate as she is participating in the coaching acceleration program with the AFL team. Although she may be better off going to another club to get further experience.

Bulldogs are also lookng for new coach with Nathan Burke leaving after 5 years in the job.

What about Chris Grant? There's a nomination from left field.

Certainly is - no coaching experience.

He is currently head of football at the Bulldogs, held that position since 2016.
Other than playing, all his experience is in admin.

Does he have any interest in coaching?

It'd be a huge demotion. (So it can't happen.) Head of football is a plum job.

I thought he was heavily involved in the Bulldogs VFLW and coached Spotswood to a premiership.

But would he ever leave the kennel?

Who would we like be our next aflw coach.

Like to see a recently retired player like Sharni Norder coach us.

Or like Ash Brazil if she retires.

Like to see a past player be our coach.

yeah worth a try daisy.

if they are looking outside the old trick the alf team used and now won a flag in doing so.

then daisy would be in my top 3.

i think erin phillips be just as good but i feel she will stay in ADL.

other then that not too many around.

like to see a woman whos played the game have it and for say 4 years lets say.

Could Jordan Roughead be a candidate?
