2012-2013 EPL Discussion Thread

Post by Jezza »

This week the 2012-2013 season of the EPL commences. This thread can be used as discussion to discuss anything to do with this upcoming season.

For starters, I'm a Chelsea fan as some would already know, but I do know we do have a lot of Newcastle fans on this forum.

So to introduce this season, Man City are going to be trying to defend their crown as champions. Last season we saw the relegation of Blackburn, Bolton and Wolves. The teams that have been promoted into the EPL from the Championship is Southampton after 7 years out of the EPL, West Ham after a year out of the EPL and Reading after 5 years out of the EPL.

My Top 4 prediction is:
1. Man City
2. Man Utd
3. Chelsea
4. Arsenal (loss of Van Persie will see them go down the ladder slightly).

The major transfers in the off season have been:
Lukas Podolski - Koln to Arsenal
Brett Holman - AZ Alkmaar to Aston Villa
Eden Hazard - Lille to Chelsea
Marko Marin - Werder Bremen to Chelsea
Fabio Borini - Roma to Liverpool
Jack Rodwell - Everton to Man City
Shinji Kagawa - Borussia Dortmund to Man Utd
Robin Van Persie - Arsenal to Man Utd
Park Ji Sung - Man Utd to QPR
Louis Saha - Tottenham to Sunderland
Alou Diarra - Marseille to West Ham

After last season's heart-breaking final day, and then Chelski's ridiculous 'back from the dead' Champion's League win to deny Spurs a place in the Champions League for this season, I am really struggling to give a sh!t about the EPL this season.

Maybe "COYS" one last time.

A late penalty to deny Spurs. How original.

FOYS.

At least Arsenal messed up, and Arsenal lost 3-0.

Liverpool losing was the shock result of the night, at least for me.

Newcastle winning was a bit of a surprise, it looked like both sides had picked up their intensity in the second half, and Tottenham seemed to waste a few of their chances in the game.

How close was Southampton to pulling off the dream return to the big League. Great effort to score twice away against the reigning Premiers.

Van Persie to Man U is a pretty sad affair for the Gunners supporters. He'll cop as much from his old crowd as Cloke next year.

Yep I agree MagpieJack. The Saints were fantastic last night. There are great signs for the club. Very positive start.

Confirmed: Alexandre Song has moved to Barcelona from Arsenal.

Tonight Chelsea play Reading at Stamford Bridge in the only midweek match.

This match is occurring tonight instead of September 1 because of Chelsea's commitments of having to play in the Euro Super League Final on August 31 against Atletico Madrid. This competition pits the winner of the ECL (Chelsea) against the Europa League winner (At Madrid).
