Personally I'm very disappointed that Beams wants to leave but it's not the end of the world. We'll get a very good draft pick for Beams. Better to do the trade now than lose him to free agency at the end of next year. Work on the principle that the team is greater than the individual. Don't want players who don't want to be at the club.

Credit where it's due mate. Your mail was obviously on the money. My apologies. Now let's get the best possible trade.

He's not a free agent at the end of next year. He is, however, out of contract.

"Out of respect to Grand Final week and the two competing teams, Collingwood will be making no further comment on this matter."

What a load of bollocks.

What about respect to Collingwood supporters?
They didn't even spin it as out of respect to Dayne and his family.

It's extremely disappointing but as you say the team is greater than the individual. Well said!!

To be honest, this looks like another failure for the club.

Though I think it's one we can work to our advantage by trading Beams for a player that better fills our needs. Beams is a very good player but far from irreplaceable.

Starting to think we should go into total rebuild mode (well really we were but no jokes now), and trade everyone worth _anything_ for youth - throw a cat out there and rebuild for 2019-20!!! What a bloody disaster...

It might not be his fault, but he has overseen the period where all of the joy associated with 2010 has all just vanished.

I have no excitement about Collingwood, and I can't remember ever feeling this way before.
This has nothing to do with Buckley. Brisbane have been boasting about the excess money they have in their salary cap and have been threatening to poach a player from one of the big clubs. Beams was a logical player for Brisbane to target. If we remain cool headed here, we have a good opportunity to score a high first hand draft pick and a player.

His old man has just beaten cancer and did it while his mom and sister lived in Melbourne. I'm sure Beamsy could have afforded to relocate his dad here.

Anyone who believes the family reason are on par with the Hirdites.

I think this could end in our favour. Just need to work the right deal. Beams is not the type we need more of, if we can trade him for players that really fill a need it could strengthen our team in the long term.
