I would reckon most of this sorta stuff has been discussed behind closed doors and the bottom line is he just wants out...

It's why at present i'm far from convinced on the whole 99% due to illness line.

If anyone thinks that 99% of why he wants to go home to be with his dad only needs to read the article here that quotes his manager, Paul Connors, and the Brisbane list manager, Dean Warren.

one thing we all have to remember however is that playing footy is a job now, there is less loyalty from the players now than from the clubs and the reason is the big bucks on offer. No more no less.

it seems counterproductive to not get a deal done. the cynic in me thinks that brisbane and beams' manager are playing a wildcard in taking advantage of the old man's health. possibly, all other avenues to get beams to brisbane have failed. the rhetoric being used suggests this.

on the other hand, i respect the info qldmagpie67 has provided to us and with no more insight to the situation than that we must all take it at face value and allow a young man to be reunited with his sick father irrespective of what ultimately it costs us.

Quite the opposite actually. He's contracted to Collingwood for 2015 and doesn't qualify for FA until the end of 2016. So technically he could opt for the draft at the end of 2015 as an uncontracted player, hope he likes the idea of playing at St Kilda or Melbourne.

If Brisbane don't trade with us now their next best option is to pray they come last to be able to draft him, which won't happen.

Dayne is the best onballer to request a move since Juddy. He demanded pick 4, Josh Kennedy and pick 20. Given Beams is not quite the player Juddy was at the same time i think it is reasonable to push for pick 4 and talented youngster.
It would be difficult for Brisbane to be seen as anything other than unreasonable and opportunistic if they baulk at this. Football clubs have long memories for ordinary behaviour.
As previously stated by others imagine any other team wanting any less for the 2nd best player on their list ?

I don't think any of that is remotely realistic so no one really needs to come out and talk about it.

Beams isn't going to take a year off football just because he isn't living close to his dad. He wants to be in QLD so he can see his dad more often, not to become his full time carer. He can either do that playing for Collingwood and flying up to QLD more often or live in QLD and play for a QLD club. Obviously, ideally for him, it would be playing for Brisbane.

At the end of the day, Pick 4 is not going to get it done. Why do you think clubs offer trades even for uncontracted players despite potentially getting them for nothing through the draft? Because they want certainty and who knows what will happen if the player goes into the draft, especially a star player with no injury issues. Why do you think Carlton ended up offering so much for Judd despite them holding the number 2 pick in the PSD?

A threat that a club will just take a player in the draft is minimal even when a player is uncontracted. When the player is still contracted for another year, it's a complete non-issue. Worst case scenario, we'll get the same offer next year. If Brisbane finishes higher on the ladder, the PSD threat will be even less so it'll be harder for them to complete the trade. If they finish lower on the ladder, we'll get a higher pick then pick 4. Situation only changes if Brisbane finish bottom and have the number 1 pick in the PSD. And if that's what their strategy is hinging on then they really are an incompetent bunch. Try selling that to their supporters.

Either way, we'll get another year of Beams and gives us a 1 year notice period to start phasing out our reliance on him as Hawthorn did with Buddy and be in a much better situation for 2016. We either get fair value or overs this year or enjoy another year of Beams. We definitely hold all the cards.
