Top 10 films for me (think I've done this before) but here goes:

(Not in order but the first few are definitely in the top 4):

1. Les Enfants Du Paradis;

2. Sunset Boulevard;

3. Citizen Kane;

4. All about Eve;

5. Kurusowa: either Rashoman / 7 Samurai / (Pie 4 Sure reminded me about Dursu Usala - great film);

6. The Conformist;

7. The General - Buster Keaton;

8. Marx Brothers - Duck Soup / A Night at The Opera / etc one of these

9. Hitchcock - Vertigo / Rear Window / North by North West

10. One of the Kaufman films ( for the more modern variety): Adaptation / Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind

Honourable mentions & could be substituted depending on my mood:

* The Wages of Fear
* The Garden of the Fintzi Continis / Bicycle Thieves, other Di Sica films
* The Godfather ? 2
* Lacombe Lucien
* Investigation of a Citizen Beyond Suspicion

I've taken to keeping a list of my favourite 500 films at work. Seems to have paid off; customers actually seem to enjoy flicking through it.

I've always thought some of the classic Hollywood gangster movies were the best.

I think the Godfather was the greatest movie ever following the Shawshank Redemption. I was blown away by how good it was after not expecting much.

I thought Scarface, Pulp Fiction and Goodfellas were brilliant as well.

Anything by Terrence Mallick is brilliant.

Thin Red Line is the best war movie ever made.

The Tree of Life is the closest thing to genius on the big screen that we have since Ingmar Bergman stopped making films.

Babel is underrated and has a superb sountrack.

For sheer entertainment Casablanca has never been bettered. I could watch that film a thousand times (and I'm well on the way).

I find it very hard to go to the cinema any more. Most contemporary films are pathetic. And don't even get me started on Australian films.
