The only realistic option is to do a trade deal with Gold Coast, any idea of keeping him for a year while he travels to QLD and back here to play and train is going to be sub par; and even if he does then he will just walk via fee agency to Brisbane for nothing in a year. Make no mistake about it the Lions mission statement is bending us over; either via AFL salary cap concessions or a shitty trade deal, especially while they have Matthews on their board and Leppersh!t as coach.
Suns are a better option to trade with, more to offer and are more likely to play finals, Lions are just bad news all round.

The suns don't have the cap room.

Why the Lethal hate? It's like people just forget.

I also believe he's a life member and generally seems to have considered opinions about us when he discusses Collingwood rather than sniping and bile you get from some other morons out there.

I love Matthews, in fact if the Woe is Me brigade manage to assassinate Bucks I'd be happy for Leigh to come back and coach again (prefer Choco though).

There is no lethal hate nor is there any negativity towards our current coach or club management and thats because there is no available better alternative.
It should be noted life membership of a club is meaningless if you dont support that club, Matthews is also a life member of Hawthorn and Brisbane, if there is any priority, Collingwood is last in his mind.

So lets be be pragmatic and remember 1990 was a long long time ago and for that matter so was 2010; we need to make sure we get the best deal and it wont be from Brisbane. Karmichael Hunt hunts departure from AFL may well free up just enough cap space for a reasonable trade. :)

Crap reasoning. You don't make your own club weaker just so another team won't get stronger.
I quite agree, but who said anything about making our team weaker? I presume Brisbane is still going to have to give us a pretty good deal.

They have a higher draft pick, for one.

He's our best goal kicking midfielder by far.
not often. maybe it's me or my failing memory but i don't often recall beams imposing himself on a game and singlehandedly getting us the chocolates. feel free to refresh my memory.
My memory is about as good as yours so I'll deal in cold hard stats.

Possession averages for 2014 **Minimum 15 games played

Top 15
Rockliff 32.72
Ablett 32.07
Kennedy 28.55
Priddis 28.50
Heppell 28.45
Pendlebury 28.38
Greene 28.13
Mitchell 27.73
Jones 27.73
Treloar 27.60
Lewis 27.43
Watson 27.40
Thompson 27.32
Beams 27.16
Prestia 27.09

Goals per game averages for season 2014 garnered from each clubs top two average possession winners.

Top 15
Gray 1.68
Ablett 1.60
Harvey 1.32
Beams 1.21
Fyfe 1.20
Parker 1.04
Selwood 1.00
Barlow 0.95
Johnson 0.94
Gibbs 0.82
Boak 0.79
Cotchin 0.78
Dangerfield 0.77
Lewis 0.74
Greenwood 0.73

(Pendlebury 0.62)

The most offensive rated midfielders of 2014 based on swoops secret formula (ok a basic and flawed method of ave. possies X ave goals per game X ave. goal assists per game)

Top 15
Ablett 64.99 (moved up one place **from list above)
Gray 55.18 (dropped down one place)
Harvey 27.44
Selwood 21.32 (moved up 3 places)
Beams 19.02 (dropped down 1 place)
Barlow 18.61 (moved up 2 places)
Parker 17.01 (dropped down 1 place)
Johnson 16.15 (moved up 1 place)
Fyfe 14.55 (dropped down 4 places)
Watson 13.46 (enters top 15)
Boak 13.25
Gibbs 12.92 (dropped down 2 places)
Lewis 12.36 (moved up 1 place)
Pendlebury 11.73 (enters top 15)
Cotchin 11.44 (dropped 3 places)

Make of that what you will but personally I think it shows that Beams is elite and ranks amongst the absolute best of the best midfielders in the competition.

P.S-Anyone know where I can find score involvement statistics?

The reality is, he is going to leave, and if we only get pick 4, it's still a win in this situation, compared with Brisbane losing Polec for nothing.

Because if we stay stubborn and refuse to trade, he will walk at end of contract next year for nuthin.

Swoop fair stats but the one I always look for is which player makes the guys around him look better and brings them into the game.
For mine it's Ablett and Pendles by a mile.
Also the disposals can be funny how many of them get soft 1-2's to build there stats. For sure Ablett can Rockliff does Thompson does, Priddis is famous for it, Watson wouldn't have half his touches with out it. Beams never gets the soft out the back 1-2 neither does Pendles so IMO they are both easily top 10

Beams is a silky smooth one touch midfielder who wanders down to the forward line and kicks goals from any angle. That's elite in my book and don't need stats to tell me that.

Truth

And I hope for moral reasons, we do the right thing by him.

(And God knows, we could use some good Karma!)

Gotta have a look at disposal efficiency.
Pendles has beams covered.

Beams though is a gun and a big loss.

Agreed. A goal kicking midfielder is a big loss. Hopefully we cover it in the meat market transactions

They can offer Beams whatever they like. He's contracted to us and won't even be a free agent until 2017. If they really want him, it's what they offer Collingwood that matters.
