Dermie is saying he has heard from some of our senior players Beams has been affected by the treatment of his departed team mates.

Lets call Dermie a heartless prick who knows nothing about cancer and is incapable of empathy on top of being Collingwood hater.

Was thinking the same. (re compassionate leave)

Before I go on I will state this above and beyond all:

I support whatever decisions he makes on this matter as what is stated is true. Family before footy.

But I will ask a few questions as I just hope the club and Dayne can find a way here.

If I step back from the emotional side of things and think purely from a football perspective.....how many away games will the brions play this year? Would he not spend a significant amount of time away regardless?

I am positive there has been a similar case in the past of an afl player living and training interstate and only flying down for match day. The name escapes me. Could we offer Dayne a similar arrangement? Would it be worth the logistical mess?

I guess a lot of it hinges on how much he wants to play with his brother and how important that is to his father, because to play devils advocate, I just don't see that he needs to leave us necessarily.

Give him a year off paid and reassess at the end of it?

Dayne gets to be home with his father. We retain a much loved and elite player.

Perhaps I am over simplifying matters of the heart?

Thoughts?
I'm reposting this as I am genuinely keen to hear peoples thoughts. Detaching yourself from the emotion of this may be difficult but if you can wouldn't you think that given the above there has to be an element of Beams not being happy at Collingwood? Even if it only plays a minor role in his decision? The lions play how many away games a year?

I just cant see how if beams wanted to stay, and we wanted him, why we couldn't simply allow him time off to spend as much of it as he needed with his father.

The only out clause here is that Daynes dad wants to see his two sons play together in the same team and I'd like to hear that straight from the horses mouth.

Don't shout me down. As I bolded above....family first. But I think the questions need asking.
Exactly - give him a paid year off and sign the 5 year deal now for 2016 and beyond.

its only $366k for next year and we are zero chance of being competitive with or without him in 2015.

100% for it - solves all problems.

I don't really see how living interstate playing football somehow equates to not putting your family first.

Plenty of people would be in the same position around the country with no other choice but to live with it the best they can.

Doesn't mean they don't care for there family member any less.

Probably what Collingwood are trying to get Dayne to see.

I guess Dayne thinks otherwise, but people will believe what they want to... there has to always be some club spin on things, things just cannot be how they're being reported.

Robbo himself reported last night it was his dad, even said about his dad wanting the boys to play together but the club wanting Dayne to stay, etc. But I guess he's in on the club spin though.

Just heard Garry Pert say the Club has known about this issue for sometime now which makes qldmagpies' tripe even more laughable.

Oh get of your high horse and explain this to me.

Not certain when this was posted but unless things have dramatically changed in the meantime then his health looks to have improved.
Swoop my understanding now this picture was taken the 2nd last week of August when Dayne was given leave from the club when he was injured.

The new turn of events has occurred only 7-10 days ago (around 3 weeks from the time this photo was taken)

Dayne at the time was the opinion his father had beaten it but unfortunately for Dayne this is now appears not to be the case and the recent prognosis isn't as favorable as they had all expected.

Look money isn't the issue if he stayed at the pies he would attract very similar $$$ so we can take that out of the equation.
The only factor is the long term diagnosis his father received and whether he can live with the fact being so far away from him he can't just pop over every other night for a chat or whatever.
If his mother and sister are already to relocate back then I would imagine they aren't expecting the new diagnosis to be of a positive manner.
Yes the club has every right to dig its heels in and get the best deal they can football is a business and that's what pert and Eddie are paid for.

Yes beast it's been no secret his father has been I'll but very recently what they had thought to be the worst behind them now appears to not be the case.
Take all the pot shots you want mate all you are doing is proving what everyone on here already knew you are a <snip - go easy mate. Cheers, BBMods.>.

I don't know how AFL regulations would work in relation to this, but could Beams be loaned to Brisbane for a season? It's hardly unheard of in professional sports.

Things change so bloody fast....

You shouldn't have to explain your self, your first post on this was fantastic and should have silenced everyone. Good luck to you and your friends, your doing an amazing job of staying civil. Cheers mate, thinking of you

See, if you were not <snip> you'd have realised you aren't my target in all of this. It's the notion of us swallowing the crap about his father's health being the decisive factor in his departure that I have a massive issue with.
FWIW, I don't think you're lying but you're sure as hell regurgitating everything we already knew and twisting it to suit your agenda.
Which is come up smelling roses after telling us he was close to signing in June.

And qldmagpies, I will apologise unreservedly if we do get a confirmation of Beamsy's dad's heath taking a turn for the worse since that picture was taken.
Right now you're the only one that is trying to imply it.
