Oh get of your high horse and explain this to me.

Not certain when this was posted but unless things have dramatically changed in the meantime then his health looks to have improved.
You disappoint me swoop. High horse indeed.

About 10 years ago I was diagnosed with cancer and had an operation to remove it. Following the surgery I was given the all clear. Soon after, it showed up elsewhere in my body and I then had to undergo months of chemotherapy. Fortunately, I recovered completely and am now out of the danger zone, so consider myself completely cured.

The point is, this terrible disease can come and go. It's a nightmare ride that Dane and his Dad are obviously going through. I would have hoped for a bit more understanding and empathy from my fellow Collingwood supporters. I'm disappointed that has not been the case.

Think Positive hang in there mate. Best wishes for what you are going through.

I have such a sense of sadness reading this post.

Qld Magpie thank you for your post. I feel you have been honest and straight down the line whenever you have posted (especially about Dayne).

One last thought - given the only ceratinty is that no one on here knows how Dayne's father is actually going (and I have experience of how aggressive this form of illness can be) could we perhaps not speculate on motives any further - I dont know feels like that ground has been covered.

Life > Football

That is all.

Peace to all that confront this monster. Your faith keeps the world believing.

I hold no grudges towards the Beamer for wanting to be with his father, he's given us great service.

Maher: Depending on who you speak to, they do say that he has been, disappointed might be too strong a word, but he's been affected by the way some of his mates have been treated by the footy club, most notably Heath Shaw.

Brereton: I actually have heard from pretty close sources from the playing group That Is The Case.

I see very little lack of empathy here, I see people questioning motives and stories and reacting as their feelings take them.

I do however see the righteous brigade using the issue to push their collective agenda v the opposing agenda....

And that is shameful behaviour.

Some are cynical and some are believers... that's the world.

And until the true facts are evident then there really is no right and no wrong.

As it stands bottom line is here if he wants gone then he will be gone and we get whats best for us, our POV has nothing to do with Beamer or his dad, as it appears in the long run His POV has nothing to do with Collingwood.

Most if not all people on here would have been touched by cancer in some way yet being diagnosed with cancer doesn't instantly equate to being a death sentence and many people can make a full recovery or live many many years cancer free.

Beams is hardly unique and neither are you or I when it comes to dealing with cancer and I really would prefer people stop using it as an excuse to take the moral high ground on the issue.

Plenty of people deal with cancer with dignity and minimum of fuss, they soldier through because they have no other choice and most of them have to cope through it without being in the fortunate position Beams is in, they couldn't afford to just give up a job or relocate to another state (for far more money I might add) on a whim. Hell some wouldn't even be able to afford the air fares to fly interstate.

They also wouldn't have such a flexible employer like a football club willing to bend to his needs.

If his father has terminal cancer then trade him and let him go with our wishes.

I just hope Beams (or his father) isn't exploiting the cancer for the added benefit of switching to a club of his choice for a big pay day.

Given the reaction of people in this thread playing the cancer card seems to be a no questions asked way out of a contract.

Unless these "sources" are named, it is just absolute bloody bullshit from these hack "journos"... Putting petrol on a fire instead of pissing into it....

What do you expect from Maher?

I have a very simple view on this - Beams has been assisted greatly by the club during some tough times, which by all reports has made him indebted to the club.
If we are now saying that he wants a trade because he completely devalues this help in view of the way Shaw was treated - then that seems highly suspect.

Was thinking the same. (re compassionate leave)

Before I go on I will state this above and beyond all:

I support whatever decisions he makes on this matter as what is stated is true. Family before footy.

But I will ask a few questions as I just hope the club and Dayne can find a way here.

If I step back from the emotional side of things and think purely from a football perspective.....how many away games will the brions play this year? Would he not spend a significant amount of time away regardless?

I am positive there has been a similar case in the past of an afl player living and training interstate and only flying down for match day. The name escapes me. Could we offer Dayne a similar arrangement? Would it be worth the logistical mess?

I guess a lot of it hinges on how much he wants to play with his brother and how important that is to his father, because to play devils advocate, I just don't see that he needs to leave us necessarily.

Give him a year off paid and reassess at the end of it?

Dayne gets to be home with his father. We retain a much loved and elite player.

Perhaps I am over simplifying matters of the heart?

Thoughts?
I'm reposting this as I am genuinely keen to hear peoples thoughts. Detaching yourself from the emotion of this may be difficult but if you can wouldn't you think that given the above there has to be an element of Beams not being happy at Collingwood? Even if it only plays a minor role in his decision? The lions play how many away games a year?

I just cant see how if beams wanted to stay, and we wanted him, why we couldn't simply allow him time off to spend as much of it as he needed with his father.

The only out clause here is that Daynes dad wants to see his two sons play together in the same team and I'd like to hear that straight from the horses mouth.

Don't shout me down. As I bolded above....family first. But I think the questions need asking.
