After quarter time, the midfield rotations of Naicos, Pendles, Crisp, Lipinski and Sullivan were brilliant. Thought Crisp and Lipinski were unheralded but very important whenever it mattered.

That is the amazing thing. Carlton did not actually dominate the clearances. Cripps and Walsh negated. How did that happen???
No idea. I am going to have to watch this game several times to uncover the mystery.
But HH and Sully were wonderful.

A Nick Daicos masterpiece. He has played many great games, and will always be remembered for that handball in the GF, but he has never before played a more comprehensive or influential game. And Pendlebury is the Magic Pudding.

Definitely a pivotal event.
We just defeated, without our senior midfield, one of the top 2 Premiership favourits.
Just astonished by this team.
Fly retains his magical connection with this team.

I will just say it again, because i am just so euphoric, amazed, astonished...
This was just an incredible achievement
The desperation, the belief, was back 100%.
A wonderful wonderful team performance.
And coaching brilliance.
We had a plan...coaches had faith that even without JDG and Titch we could hold their mids.
Even after Beau was subbed out, we still suppressed their midfield.
Did not think we could do that. Thought we had to give up clearances
But our team is astonishing, and somehow we held up their clearance dominance.
lBacks to the wall.
Triumphant.
Cannot express enough my astonishment, and awe at this team.

Incredible win. Absolutely buzzing with excitement.

The most significant aspect of the victory is the way we defeated Carlton at their own game. Carlton are renowned for their clearance dominance and punishing from stoppage yet we beat them in all key metrics this evening:

Clearances = Carlton 40-44 Collingwood
Centre Clearances = Carlton 11-12 Collingwood
Stoppage Clearances = Carlton 29-32 Collingwood
Tackles = Carlton 54-88 Collingwood

Similar to Elliott's match winner against Carlton a few years back, Nick Daicos' goal will go down in Collingwood folklore and give Carlton nightmares for years to come. A legendary moment from a generational talent.

Pendles at the age of 36 is simply incredible. I'm in awe of what he can still produce at his age. We're been blessed to have him for 18 years and counting. He consistently stands up in the big moments and has that touch of class very few have.

After starting the season 0-3, we've now rebounded to be 4-1-3 and given ourselves a chance to really launch our season now.

The Carlton midfield actually touched the ball first fairly regularly at stoppages ( particularly at centre square ) but our gang tackle pressure caused them to fumble and cough it up before they actually managed to clear the ball. We were much cleaner with our hands tonight and that held us in good stead with a lot of ground balls.
Crisp finally handled the ball well again and people really need to appreciate the work Lipinski does up and down the ground. The Cripps / Pendlebury and Walsh / Naicos match ups were strategic because those match ups force Cripps and Walsh to be accountable for quality opponents ( and not just spuds who hold onto them ) rather than doing whatever they want all night. Sullivan was also clean by hand which was very impressive for his first game at the highest level. I hope he gets a full game against the Eagles next week because there’s no reason why he wouldn’t be better again.

The clearances were 1-7 early but after that especially in the 2nd and last we were clearly better.

+34 tackles (22-8 inside 50) +26 forward entries. We dominated the last qtr in most parts but unlike a lot of the other contenders we don’t have the key forwards and don’t get enough reward for our effort (except in the 2nd). We could have run away if we took our chances in the last, we created a shitload of opportunities.
