Who cares!

We made (and almost won!!) a granny 3 seasons ago. The list needed an overhaul, now it’ll take a few years for the next crop to mature.

Luckily, we’ll have a new coach for these kids to growth with their coach. Everyone matures together and a new game plan becomes ingrained.

Yeah, we’ll probably be shit next year too…. But take the good with the bad!

We've tasted victory against Hawthorn twice since the start of 2012.

Let that sink in for a second.

I tend to agree with that,Even though we were terrible today,I wouldn’t slash my wrists over it.We’re going to see some terrible performances like that from time to time with a young side. The fact that Hawthorn was able to take so many uncontested marks on the forward line all day suggests that the team was off its game and didn’t apply enough pressure on them all over the ground.

Last 20 games against the Hawks 5 - 15

Our next worst record, is 10 - 10 against WCE, Geel, Freo and Port.

So over the last 20 games against every opponent, we are level at worst or ahead. Except for Hawthorn.

Let THAT sink in.

Yep, even in our glory year of 1990, we lost to em by ten goals out at waverley, that was a long walk home, back then, thank heavens the Dees put em out of the finals, that season. Has been our bogey teeam, for an eternity, and it shits me to tears. Look only saving grace for me, this whole season, is the great lot of kids we have coming along nicely, a new coach coming, and the fact we have not once, been belted this season, not once., LIke today, the dockers got smashed, for second time, even the tigers got belted this season, and the eagles have been three times. our worst loss is not quite six goals, so we do at least fight games out, we did bring a eight goal defeat back to three today. If we could just somehow get a top flight forward, Mihochek is just OK, but clearly both cameron and cox are not the answer now. Ive heard good things bout this kid Ash Thompson, as a forward, is he not ?Least we should get Daicos mk 3, and our kids will be better next season, new coach and all that, Just get this very average season over with, and lets move onto a new era, i reckon,

On the bright side I was pleased with Ginnevan, McCreery, Macrae and Henry, despite him missing a few marks he should have taken.

Let's hope our players don't lose focus or fall in a heap for these last 2 games.
Good summary of the game.

I don't reckon we were flat though. We just looked clueless once Hawthorn shut down our ability to use the corridor like we did against West Coast.

Youngsters will be fine. I'm just happy we're giving them game time and letting them develop. I do think we need to go hard in the draft for the next year or two and hopefully that will be enough to establish the nucleus of our next great team.
Haff wrote:I do have concerns about the kids. There’s no Pendles there in that it was obvious he was going to be a gun since game 1. I guess Nick will be that player.
These kids on their own won't be enough to build a great team so we need to find more young talent, but they will form the building blocks if we invest heavily in the next draft or two.

Still shake my head that we gave away our future first-rounder last year.

Yes, he was there.

Saw him on the pre-match coverage.

Arguably worst game of the season (only contender I can think of is St Kilda, but at least we finished that game well). Just soul-destroying seeing so many abysmal passes and inability to get the ball off them when they got going.

We have a few years of pain coming, no doubt about that.

I sadly suspect, I will be retired before we are a realistic chance for a flag again. That's late this decade by the way.

I find it all a bit bemusing when posters criticise or have concerns for “ the kids “ when they are playing against men.
It’s like the forensic examination Bianco was put under after half a dozen games. I think we can all remember recent games when players like Crisp, Sidey and Pendlebury used the ball badly. These “ kids “ aren’t machines, they will have good moments and they will have poor days. They will all be either beneficiaries or victims of the senior players around them.
Macrae was very good today for an 18 year old young bloke against players like Shields, Mitchell, OMeara etc but his game would have been pretty average had he been a 150 game veteran with 7 pre seasons under his belt.
Some will make it, some won’t but you won’t know which way they bend after less than 10 games of footy as 18 / 19 year olds.
I would love to dig out the majority posts on J Daicos from three years ago.
That should be enough to remind people not to go to early on these young blokes. Gentle rant over.

Which one did you enjoy the most BazBoy?

For me, it was 1990, because it had been such a long drought, with nine GF losses preceding it.
