Practically, every "profit" as you put it could be at least partially offset by the draft picks and/or trades that didn't work. You'd need to do a version of a profit/loss scenario, looking at each draft pick and trade with an objective measure of positive or negative.

Overall I'd rate us in the positive, but that's subjective.
Pick 14 for Cameron Wood, for example

Yep overall I agree stui, for the most part I was referring to the perceived exodus of players from our 2010 team as I think we've done a very nice job of flogging them all off. I do think we have been good in general for quite a while but there would be plenty of contrary evidence

Herald Sun reporting 5 year Brisbane deal $4 million. How do we compete with that?

Shocking and Terrible Post

The Old man has just battled Cancer and you write that sh*t. Some of the posters on here must live with Caroline Wilson as they have no Soul.
You are not involved in football at any level are you? It's the standard spin whenever anyone wants out for whatever reason. Live in your cocoon and stick your head in the sand. When you leave school and enter the real world you will realise its all about money.
Left school in 1987 and have been involved with Sport until last year. And have lost family whilst serving away in the Navy defending your worthless ass. I know where I wanted to be at the time you frigging halfwit.

Bad news for sure but Geelong did pretty well, and are still doing pretty well, after losing Gary Ablett Jr.

As long as the Pies do the smart thing and use their head instead of their heart on this matter we'll do ok.

We don't and he's not worth that.

Port and Hawthorn don't have one player on their books being paid that much, yet they just played off in an epic prelim.

Yes, the Swans will probably win the flag, but let's face it that's due to their extra salary cap anyway.

Trading for Beams now is better than losing him for pick 10-12 in next year's draft with free agency.

Get an early pick (Suns or Lions), add another good young player to the deal (not Aish, stop joking) and move on.

We don't want players at our club if they don't want to be here, no matter how good they are.

Surely operation get Dangerfield starts now.

Offer him a 7 year 6.5 million contract.

If he's open to our offer to leave this year then trade Beams for pick 4 and offer that to Adelaide.

Like Beams he's worth more than that but unlike Beams is eligible for F/A next season so Adelaide might choose to get more for him now rather than risk losing him for less next year.

how excited exactly would Hine be at the moment?

He's about to turn a 27 year old ex-rookie into a mid 20s pick, and a mid 20s pick into one or two top ten picks.

People (i'm being generous) carp on about the 'talent bleed' - take stock of what the talent cost to get to the club and what we got when they left...

Wellingham - profit
Dawes - profit
Harry will be a profit
Beams huge profit
Daisy a loss in draft pick terms - free agency blows
Shaw a profit as he was taken F/S with a second rounder.

Daisy is the only guy we've lost who was taken with a high draft pick - we have added many with high draft picks. Without going near the bottom of the ladder.

A club which is able to constantly improve its drafting position through trades by adding value to players can only be moving in one direction talentwise - forwards.

P.S. I love how having 7-10 of our best 22 out injured isn't an excuse for performing badly, but the loss of one player, factoring in the recompense for this loss, sets us back three years. Lol.

Too early to say though. Give it a few years..

Beams to Brisbane

Dangerfield to pies

Pick 4 + Aish to Adelaide.

Happy with that if it is a straight swap for Dangerfield.
No Way!!

If thats on the Table, Take aish and 4 from Brisbane and ontrade Aish to Adelaide for Danger & their 2nd rd pick. Win - Win - Win

I am disappointed, but he will NEVER have greater currency than he has right now!!! So that means we need to maximize it and get the best deal that the AFL has EVER seen

Omeara and Pick 7 and 2nd round pick
Aish and Pick 4 and 2nd round pick

Bare minimum!!
In what universe do you think Adelaide would accept a straight swap of Aish for Danger? To add to that, you realise Aish needs to agree to go to Adelaide of all places first. Simply not going to happen. Only way it could was if pick 4 was thrown in.
Pick 4 AND Aish is WAY OVERS for Dangerfield. We would be better off keeping Aish and Pick 4. Add that to pick 8 (Moore) and we have a good draft!!

Danger is what 25ish? Aish 19. Adel get equal player for extra 6 years.

Aish is SA native - His old man played a good game or two but didnt have the balls to come to Vic to play in the big league.

Danger could walk for next to nothing under FA next year.

If not Danger, what about -
beams for aish
aish to Adel for their Pick 9 (or 10, whichever one they got).
Everyones happy.

Adelaide get a pick 4 level(?) player for pick 9 one year later after Aish has proven to be capable - good upgrade.

We get pick 9 for beams and Bris get Beams for pick 4.

Anyway, its all guessing games and BBB (Bulletin Board Bulltish) for now, the big boys will sort it out in a week or two.

However, the time is now to trade a big name for a big payday!! (Players and/or top ten picks)

We will not be parting with Beams for pick 9.

A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush.

It will be two top ten picks or one top ten pick and one high quality young player (Aish, O'Meara, maybe Lewis Taylor? Oh hang on no more midgets right?)

Let's get Danger for nothing next year using Beamsy's wages

Problem with getting him as a free agent is everybody with cap space is going to go after him, which you know plenty of clubs will be organising their salary caps for. If we have something good to offer while he is still contracted this year, we reduce the pool of potential poachers. There's absolutely no question about cap space now that we'll be clearing Beams as well.

Throw in Shaw, Thomas and Lumumba and you're getting closer.

Outside of Franklin who has Hawthorn lost?

Geelong?

Sydney?

Happy players within a harmonious playing group don't leave powerful clubs like Collingwood.

Well until now.
