Richmond: Lynch
Essendon: Shiel
Eagles: Kelly
Melbourne: May?

Us adding Beams rather than say pick 14 (if we traded up) has us closer to matching those additions in 2019. We'd also still be adding good young talent in Quaynor and Kelly.
^This for me - I wanted May but we dont have the currency.

We are committed to Quaynor + Kelly and so we should be, they are quality and we have discount rights. Pick 18 should have more value to us than these kids because of our access and discount.

Beams makes our midfield SCARY good. A midfield this deep with A grade quality takes pressure off defence esp our mix with players like Sidey and Phillips able to run defensively and Beams a goal kicker.

18 this year and a pick hopefully around the same next year with picks (points) coming back to alleviate the deficit is the best scenario.

If Quaynor is ranked 14 - the clubs with picks from 12 - 18 are Crows(2picks), GWS, Hawkes, Crows, Tigers.
I could see hawkes loosing Burton bidding for him, GWS with an ageing shaw and loosing Wilson and even Tigers bidding on him.

Without points coming back we go into deficit and next years first round pick becomes redundant anyway.

18 for Beams makes us better and we loose nothing.

Using 18 wont help us next year.

The only question I have remaining about the possible acquisition of Beams is have we done our due diligence and given him a medical?

Is it ironic that we drafted Beams originally with Pick 25? Yet some here think giving up 18 and next years 1st rounder say (10-19), is not expensive. Everyone is after the instant gratification. Instead of showing some patience with a kid for 2-3 years.

Beams (A+) adds to Midfield, but simply pushes out another reasonable good Midfielder, like Sier (B). So the gain is limited. Sier has taken 3 years to get there, but looks like he has an awesome 7+ years in front of him. And he was pick 35ish.

Bringing in May would be a big improvement to the team, as we are weak in that area.

I think Beams will get done. So I'm arguing against the inevitable here. I just think we are trading in (at an expensive cost) for an excess that will have limited team improvement and not a need that could make a significant difference to the team.

It's funny how this is ignored when people say so and so will make you a better team. We all imagine somehow that with the Beams addition, we will have 23 players out there. But yes, there can only be 22 so while he might be a great addition, it's always minus whatever the guy he pushes out of the side has. Not an extra player, just an extra option. Sure, we will get injuries here and there so it's great to have depth regardless but I don't want to see one of our in form mids be disgruntled in the 2's because we overdid it with superfluous recruiting.

Btw, would love him back, but I'm a romantic so I must temper that with a bit of cold logic.

Agree totally! We do not need a Beams type to improve, we need a key back.
This is fanciful stuff and I'm very surprised the club even entertained this idea, let alone pursuing it the way they are.
