Why? So we can maybe have a decent B grader in 5 years once the premiership window closes?

Unless I misunderstand the rules isn't it true that we won't know the value of pick 18 until/unless another club bids for Quaynor before pick 18?

I hardly know the rules, you're probably right.

My understanding
If any club bids before 18 we pritty much have to use it.
IF we dont have it.....we can use combination of other picks/points.

IF we dont use it on Beams , May or any other player - we would be better trading it for two second rounders - this year and next or something like that.
Best option is to trade it for currency next year if there are no quality needs players we can get for it this year.

If Quaynor is bid on in the first round and we can match the bid in part due to Brisbane sending us a pick/s alongside Beams for our 1st round selections then we aren't giving away 2 1st round selections now are we as Quaynor is our first round selection for 2018 and has simply been obtained via the bidding system in place.

Conversely if a deal is reached for Beams with pick 18 and a future 2nd like people hope, a first round bid comes and we have failed to find the points required to match elsewhere then any deficit may well push back that treasured 2019 1st round selection into a 2nd round pick anyway.

Of course if the deal is for pick 18, a future second and we have found the points to match a 1st round bid then Beams hasn't cost us a single 1st round selection at all as we still get Quaynor.

As long as a bid for Quaynor comes in the first round then in no possible way can the trade cost for Beams ever be considered two 1st round selections.

What is "overs" for Beams in the current trading scenario?
