If there could possibly be a retrospective best on ground medal for Grand Finals then Ron Richards wins it clearly for the 1953 Grand Final. He was best on ground, his brother Lou was captain, we knock off Geelong and win the flag. Sensational!
143 games retired in 1956.
Coached Collingwood thirds and seconds teams and was assistant senior coach.
So he was;
a premiership player,
best on ground in a premiership team
coached our thirds and seconds to premierships
was assistant senior coach (to Tommy Hafey)

Very sad day. Peter Daicos spoke very highly of Ron in his book and said he was responsible for him getting his start in the seniors. Incredibly Ron passed away on Daics birthday.
