Re: Your first time you saw Pies in a final
The first final I can remember is the 1990 Qualifying Final.
I also had emergency dental work done on the same day. Skateboarding accident. Dad made me wait for the game to end. True story.
We lived walking distance from Waverley and ppl would park in our driveway and lawn. And of course it was a draw.
Mum found out I was made to wait and wasn't impressed.

Re: Your first time you saw Pies in a final
On TV was the 2002 qualifying final against Port, when I was 13 – a game I'll always have fond memories of, needless to say!
At the ground, I think it might not have been until the 2009 qualifying final against St Kilda, a game I do not have fond memories of. To make matters worse, I came back two weeks later to see us belted again by Geelong! (I missed the intervening week with Jack Anthony kicking the winning goal against Adelaide.)
I think the first finals win I saw live was the 2011 qualifying final vs West Coast. Even that was somewhat bittersweet as we only just fell over the line in a game we were expected to win comfortably, which confirmed what we'd all suspected in the final weeks of the H&A season: that the 2010/2011 mojo was gone. Haven't been to many more finals wins since then, sadly!

First Collingwood final I can remember is the 2002 Qualifying Final against Port Adelaide. I was an 8-year old kid at the time.
One of the great finals victories, and our first interstate finals win. We also achieved it without Buckley which was significant.

The first one I remember was the 1964 GF. Remember 'Gabbo's Run' like it was yesterday! I also can remember that Crompton kicking the winning goal. I was there, as I was in 1966, etc, etc, etc! Luckily, was also there in 1990, 2010 and 2023! bring on no. 17.

1981 first semi-final against Fitzroy. Ross Brewer kicked the winning goal from a freakish snap out of a pack.
We just rocked up bought tickets at the gate and found a seat near the fence. I was 19 years old.
SF1: Saturday, 12 September (2:30 pm) Collingwood 19.19 (133) def. Fitzroy 19.18 (132) MCG (crowd: 85,133)

Re: Your first time you saw Pies in a final
I reckon mine was at arctic park in 1973 when we were upset by the Blues after finishing on top of the table. IIRC Peter McKenna was stitched up so badly by Geoff Southby that they "dropped" him for 16 year old Rene Kink the following week. That week I was up in the heavens of the Northern Stand which was the most miserable time my 10-year old self ever had at a game - all second half I had a tigger supporter yelling in my ear as we caved in ... I will never forget how sad I was. It was worse than all the GF losses!!

Re: Your first time you saw Pies in a final
First final om TV was the 1977 Grand Final, then the reply. back then they didn't televise the other finals, at least not in the bush where I lived.
First final live, I don't remember but it would have been 2008-2010.

Re: Your first time you saw Pies in a final
Hmm. Well as explained above the 1990 Qualifying Final was the first I can remember.
But the first one I was in attendance for? That would be the 2002 Prelim against Adelaide. A very memorable match.

Re: Your first time you saw Pies in a final
The 1970 grand final is my first memory of a Collingwood final. Dad listening in silence on the radio in the second half. Enough said. First one in person was in 78 where they were smashed by Hawthorn in the qf. Much better the following week where they did a number on Carlton with Carman unleashed in the second half creating mayhem. Has there been a more electrifying player? Would have been to over 30 in the years since including the 3 flags. Hoping for many more to come.
