As I keep saying, clubs can and do delist (and pay out) players with one year left on their contract. e.g. James Stewart last year. Sadly, honestly dunno if Ash would prefer that. Gets his $$ either way. Maybe he'd argue preferring that is no worse than Wright holidaying in Italy on Pies pay.

Grundy signed on for 7 years in Jan 2020 and Swans are paying 600k of his 900k annual salary which expires end of 2026, AFAIK.

It plainly doesn’t matter. It didn’t stop us assembling a team to win a flag and hasn’t prevented us bringing in players we wanted. Given the increase in the TPP, these payments are blips - about equivalent to having a poor to average player on the list but out for the season injured.

Of the players departed only Murphy was best 23 and he didn’t play at all last season. Noble with a fully fit list is probably close to the 24th man.
None of these three make a difference save depth.
The two coming in are top 10, add to that Membry as depth, maybe last spot in the fwd line then we have improved our list dramatically.

According to Landsberger (Hun) in March, $1.1 million this year, $300k paid by us. So his salary must have been about double the combined salary of Sweet & Fort, his PF & GF oppo, and still he couldn't beat them. Sheesh... What a rort!

Yep, I think you're right. Ads's deal was to 2025.

On the flip side, the "Hoks" were paying some of Titch's contract. But looks like that ran out end of 2023.

I'm a bit surprised by the decision to delist Nathan Kreuger. Although its been a frustration watching him stuggle to get on and stay on the ground for extended periods to give himself a decent run of game time to develop some consistency in his game, I always thought he was very strong with a good size and reasonable skills. He was at his best in this years Kings Birthday game against Melbourne when he kicked 3 goals playing full forward and I thought that our patience had finally been rewarded but then (I think against Hawthorn) he missed a set shot at goal from striaght in front just 10 meters out and I suspect that his card was marked since then. That miss was a brain fade of monumental proportions and I think it may have displayed the mental weakness that Kreuger has in his game where he doesn't have the capacity to think it through in crucial moments. There was also the missed shot at goal against the Swans in the Preliminary Final of 2022 when he came on as the sub and with the game in the balance missed a relatively easy shot on goal when running into the half forward line that again showed he struggles to "sieze the moment" when on the big stage. Then of course there is the problem of him playing in a kamikaze style that not only put himself in danger of being injured but I was always nervous that he would injure one of his teammates too. I guess there is the argument that such aggressive attack on the ball is what good key forwards do, but Kreuger seemed to be unable to judge when such action was not appropriate and all too often his body couldn't cash the cheques his actions were passing and the fact that his body failed so often to be able to stand up to the rigours of AFL football must have also been a major factor in the decision to let him go off the Collingwood list.
The good thing about Kreuger was, unlike the talented but unreliable Ash Johnston, is that we always new he was trying at 100% and for that I thank him for his efforts at Collingwood and wish him all the best with his future. Sad to see another footballer most likely pass into the next phase of his life without quite being able to secure the potential that he showed.
I wonder if there is any chance that Kreuger would be offered a rookie spot to stay in the system at Collingwood for next season? It's not as though we have an excessive amount of strong key position players on the list and its a footy fact that big guys take longer to mature as footballers and since he will be turning just 26 in 2025 there is a chance that he is just coming into his peak as a footballer of his size. If I were Collingwood I'd strongly consider this if Kreuger were open to the idea and still committed to give his best efforts.

^ Loved his attitude - everything else about his game and almost-never-availability screamed “list clogger”. Being clear about it, we don’t really think he’s suddenly going to turn into a 50-goal a season forward. So, the Club was right to make list space to try to find a different piece of the puzzle.
