West Coast have chosen Andrew McQualter as their next coach.

A football source with direct knowledge of the appointment said the former Richmond and Melbourne assistant coach edged out Collingwood assistant Hayden Skipworth and Geelong’s Steven King.

I guess it's this ~

Quietly happy that Skipworth narrowly missed out on the job.

He's been a huge asset for us over the last few years.

Yeah but is his head somewhere else now, does he get a new role to remain at the Pies. Feel like same same could be same same and I don’t want to become ninethmond.

Is Hayden and CFC better off if he makes a fresh start elsewhere now

This is the biggest weakness in the McFly team coaching philosophy. How d'ya keep all the assistants... and keep 'em happy??

Can keep the head coach 'cos he has the "best" footy job. But the assistants? Not so much Skipworth (yet)... But look at Leppa and Bolts.

It's a problem. Maybe hafta keep looking at possible new assistant coaches. (Maybe Leppa will end up a very good list manager. But we dunno. Hasn't done it before.) Obviously our club or McFly reckon ex senior coaches make good assistant coaches. There's Simpson... Ratten... Others have already moved to better-paying footy admin jobs. e.g. Richardson...

Assistant coaches seem to only last about three years at a club unless their role changes
Basically hearing the same voices saying the same thing gets boring for players
A different voice saying it in a different manner helps

^ it's natural that assistants want to progress their career. Obviously, all clubs have them.
Heck we selected Fly from a Richmond offering. It was a nice offering.

And Dew of course...

'FORMER Gold Coast coach Stuart Dew will join Chris Fagan's football department full-time in 2025 in a big boost to Brisbane's premiership defence.

Sydney and Port Adelaide are both understood to have offered Dew the opportunity to return to their clubs as assistant coaches.

But after spending the second half of 2024 as a part-time coach at the Lions, Dew will step up as a line coach when Brisbane reports back for pre-season in December. '

And Worsfold has returned the WC as Head of Football.
