What do you think our chances are of winning the 2024 premiership?

Very good – we're in the box seat and will be hard to stop

Pretty good – we should finish top 4 and still be in contention on preliminary final weekend, but hard to know from there

Unsure – new season, everyone starts from scratch, and we're just one of many teams that can win it

^ I can't imagine Fly saying that to his troops

We need to get back to form including the incumbent injury players and start to gel.
If we win against Dons on our favourite MCG, we're back in the top four.

We have been given a chance to do well. This is our year!
Things will change for the better from now onwards...

Fly played in 3 premierships at Brisbane where they were never the best team in the H&A season, but the best team come September.

We make finals, preferably top 4 which is still realistic, then watch out, we're a real chance.

Let's face it, we've had an injury prone season so far, but now we seem to be getting our players back. However, we still could see Elliott, Mitchell, Cox and McStay available well before the finals.

As long as we can stay in touch with the top 4, we should aim to have a close to best team available for the last 3 games or so before the finals. Do that, then we are still a big chance.

All things considered. Injuries. Players losing form. Being partly worked out. Losing our aura (as Jonathan Brown puts it). The toughest run home of any team. We have two chances to go back to back: Buckley's and none.

Jonathan Brown goes public with eye-opening claim about Collingwood coach Craig McRae

Brown says the law of averages was always going to catch up with the Pies and that is what we are seeing now as teams begin to believe that they can weather the late flurry from the black and white. “They’re getting beaten around the contest, their forward connection has been pretty ordinary and their defenders are getting ambushed,” Brown said. “For me, it’s a really big concern, they lost on the weekend, you start losing these close games, you lose your aura, the teams that come up against you in those last quarters aren’t as worried, because you don’t feel like you’re paralysed as much."

The Pies face an extremely tough run home, facing seven finals contenders in their last eight games.

^ fairly correct summation, look to be frank winning back to back is a rare feat reserved for really great teams. I don't think we fit into that catogary this year.

not saying we can't make a dent in the finals should we make it, but our team profile isnt what it was, and not that of a flag side.

our reliance on coming from behind, or being up and giving up late scores to scrap a win simply isnt sustainable, it is a party trick that, the more you use it...the less effective it will becomes and the more energy you waste....you ave to have the games you win early to bank energy week on week. As Craig Mcrae is keenly aware.

The writing was on the wall when we fell 54 points behind against North.

Last 2 weeks the marks disparity has been huge. Essendon +50, Geelong +70. Teams seem to be hanging onto the ball more against us and pick us off with our zoning. Also we rank 17th for disposal efficiency so we are coughing the ball too much.

The writing was on the wall when we retired no one after our 2023 win and gave up a first round draft pick for a player who didn’t fit our structural needs (for the record we needed more pace through the midfield and a couple of tall forwards). Wright wanted to quit but was talked out of it. People are blaming injuries, but when you play so many thirty year olds in the team, injuries are inevitable. Compounding all this, our drafting has been terrible. Look no further than the draft two years ago. Ryan is a candidate for delisting while our first choice, Allan should be killing it in the VFL, but isn’t. Our VFL team is on the bottom of the ladder and recruits like Sullivan and Bytel are basically rookie top ups. So to answer the question, yes, this era is over. McRae has squeezed every ounce of performance out of the playing list this year. Where he has failed is not giving more time out on the field to the next group of players coming through in Macrae, McInnes and Dean. He admitted in last night’s post script that he hasn’t given thought to the future. He will now regret that because it’s hurting our chances next year.

Our chances are akin to Bidens chance of being the next president, unless he gets boned or we make some aggressive changes on field.

It ain’t over. And I don’t think anyone would want to play us in September. Going against a lifetime and hoping Carlton can win tonight

We could very much end up 12th by end of tomorrow.

Best case senario is we can sneak into 8th.
Need to win the next 4/6, given we only have won twice since round 11.. our form is patchy at best.

We might have handed over a top 10 pick to freo. I feel someone at AFL house needs to ban Collingwood from trading future first round picks. We always make a mess of it.
