Does my head in on this board but I guess if the mods are also doing it then it is what it is.
The match day thread is for unfiltered BS knee jerk reactions. The time for level headed comment comes after.

We finished without an injury, the Dogs picked up two. That's a positive. Another is getting another game into Sullivan, Harrison, Bytel, and Mcrae. I can never be disappointed when the team has a crack and injuries hurt every club some more than others. We are set to suffer a bit of pain against the Demons but hopefully, we don't give the Roos their first win. Then a bye and we head up to Gold Coast which is tough to beat up there. Worst case we are going to just miss the finals, best case we are just going to make them.

Exactly. Carlton showed us last night how you win games of football this year. 7 goal blitz in the last. But fair play to our few stars still playing at the moment. You were surrounded by a bunch of VFL triers, but that's about all.

I just don't get this shut up shop mentality. The best way to save a game is to win it.
There is no shut up shop mentality at all but there is an inability to execute the game plan now because we are playing blokes are just off the pace of AFL footy. There’s a lot of reasons why players fall short of being regular AFL footballers and one of them is the inability to RUN out four quarters of high pressure footy. We can all see when a player has no left foot but what isn’t as obvious is when players simply can’t produce the same intensity in the last quarter as they did in the first. We probably had about six of them playing last night but that’s what happens when senior battle hardened players aren’t available.

As for our coach’s game plan being obsolete ( not sure who said this ) does that mean any recent premiership coach who doesnt win the flag the following year, is also obsolete and outdated in their coaching strategies.
Did Hardwick become obsolete in 2018 after winning it in 2017 and then went back to back again in 19 and ‘20 ?
Enough of the nonsense talk, we’re the reigning premiers and the reigning premiers had something like 26 players to pick from this week. It’s not much fun but we all need to deal with the realities of a contact sport and accept this isn’t going to be our year.

Had the forwards kicked more accurately in the first quarter 7 goals not 5
Had the defence and midfield not kicked straight to doggies players in the second we would have won

The number of free kicks in front of goal they got was embarasing and one were questionable poor discipline by our players

Injuries meant some very average players were selected

Just watched the game again and seriously we lost it they didn’t win it

Firstly Q1 we should have kicked 9-3 at worst more likely 10-2
Poor goal kicking is poor football. None of the shots we missed were hard by AFL standards.
Momentum plays a huge part in games and we were up 19-0 when the momentum swung because if a stupid 50m penalty Sidey gave away. Firstly he was caught out by his opponent (McRae at that time) then run towards him realised he couldn’t get there in time then run backs to get to a free player. Stupid error for an experienced player. Momentum shifted from that point on in first term.
We had 12 scoring shots in Q1 and only 10 more the remaining 3 quarters.
You not going to be winning games getting 3 scoring chances per term.
Ok now for some harsh truths
Noble as good as he’s been this season showed last night why he didn’t play in the GF. He’s a confidence player. If he goes well early he’s fine but if he makes a error early (like kicking into Lobb coming out of defence of there 2nd goal) he thinks he has to make up for it it and then tries too hard to bring off s miracle play. He had some horrendous turnovers last night. He needs to understand his limitations and play within those.

Our field kicking is below AFL standard too often. Players can’t hit targets 20/25m away under no pressure. Moore Sidey Noble Markov all made unacceptable kicking errors coming out of defence last night that led to goals.

Johnson isn’t a AFL player. He lacks the desire and want to be at that level. He has skill for sure but doesn’t have the mindset to play at the level.

We made errors in how we structured up last night. Frampton should have always been FB. We tried robbing Peter to pay Paul. Obvious move was Howe forward Frampton back and use Johnson as back up ruck extra tall forward. We knew going in dogs would have JUH, Lobb, Darcy all camped forward snd our only true tall defender then would have been Moore. We also shouldn’t have played Markov forward. We needed closing speed for contests inside our defensive 50. Sidey was caught out in between his opponent and goal to often as he’s not a natural defender. He over read play. Markov has the speed to close down those gaps. Sidey would have been better served working in the forward line.

Our veterans didn’t step up and lead in Pendles absence when needed. Too often we had limited experience in the middle when Nick D was on the bench. What were we thinking in the 2nd term when we had a starting midfield at a centr bounce of Sullivan McCreery and McRae. We lost 4 straight clearances and that turned a 17 point lead into a 6 point deficit until we got back to our starting rotation. Why wouldn’t be have left Crisp or Lipinski there and only rested one of them at a time ? The coach doesn’t often make error but he did last night.

Yes we where inexperienced snd yes it was close until the last couple minutes but we made so many unforced errors in that final term it was only a matter of time before there repeated entries paid off.

Those 4 points we gave up last night could become costly at seasons end.

Let’s hope some of these injuries he’s quicker than advertised because we could find ourselves well outside the 8 if we continue to play like we did last night for the next month.

But it's okay with you when Treloar throws it around all night like a rugby ball with impunity from the fluro shitheads

You’re spot on on all three points. Our discipline was poor and it proved very costly. The other point I noticed, was just how poor we were through the corridor without Pendleburys decision making and execution on show. We also missed DeGoeys brute force at stoppages too. Everyone has injuries but there are injuries and there are injuries. For all the talk about having no forwards, we still kicked 80 odd points. What really killed us was the unavailability of Pendles, Mitchell and DeGoey. Then at least we wouldn’t have been subjected to a starting mid field in the last quarter of Sullivan, McCreery and a blocked Daicos against Bont, Treloar and Jack MacRae.

Yep, we got four quarters of effort on basically an empty fuel tank.
As others have said, felt we lost the game more than Welfare won it.
Their entire score prior to 3/4-time was effectively charity donations by our turnovers, and what the fluro shitheads gifted their actors for trivial shit.

Bont carries these grifters week after week; his back MUST be killing him.

Not to mention us missing McInnes, McStay and the talented Richards.

What we have discovered, without doubt, is that Macrae, Johnson, Bytel and most likely Parker are not up to AFL standard.

The good thing is that Harrison and Sullivan are proving their worth. All is not lost peeps. After we get a few of our key experienced players back in 3 weeks or so, we are capable of going on a long winning streak, getting us into the finals. Even from 8th spot, we are capable of going all the way. Go Pies!

Sidey was no where near encroaching on the mark! He was always outside 5 metres therefore didn't have to "stand"

THAT umpire got that terribly wrong and gifted the dogs their first goal.

STOP the Sidey hate! He had a decent game.

Josh Daicos retaliation tap changed the momentum of the game, it was dumb, and costly. We got things back under control then 3 quick frees to the dogs wrested the ascendancy from us in the last and the dogs went on with it.
Get back on top.
