When your teammates and Coaches rate your game it means a lot more than some armchair expert.

With Elliott and Hill as the main smalls down forward it is hard for Schulz to immediately find his niche. Give him some time.

^Agreed. It's a hard gig to come into a tightly bonded premiership team and pick up where you left off without some adjustment time. Not to mention there's a really big gap between personality types when it comes to major transitions like this.

Yep and we should add McCreery as another competitor in the forward line.

He's not doing nearly enough to justify the cost of the trade.

4 games in and all we have seen is glimpses and this intangible "forward line pressure acts". Funny how a player can have so many pressure acts in a game yet fail to register a tackle.

Maybe a pressure act is running close behind your opponent who has the football.

Broaden your view on Schultz. He ain't no VFL player and settling into this side, FFS give him time.
23 pressure acts last night was elite, and he kept trying.
Elliott and Hill benefited from his efforts. He's as hard as a cats head.
It was his best game for us to date.

Pressure acts are great....but you expect that

For what its worth, SEN had him worst Pie on field:
Lachie Schultz - D

One disposal in the first half. A big shot for goal in the last quarter that hit the post. They can talk about positioning and defensive running all they like ... they gave up a future first-round pick for his talents. Needs to do more.

Look, let's be fair - it isn't like we had a 20 year old, 1.5 goal a game goalsneak on our list that we could have played in that position, anyway.

He’s a quality player who isn’t playing well. The effort is there but the reward isn’t. Not sure he’s up to speed with our game style because just not getting to enough contests compared to his days at Freo. He’s not handling the ball well either but we have a plague of that at Collingwood at the moment ( most likely due to short turnarounds and a bit of travel which doesn’t allow proper training blocks to hone the skills )

^ In any event, we didn't recruit him as a star, goalkicking forward. He just isn't one. Almost half his goals last season came in just 4 matches. Two of those were against West Coast and Gold Coast - hardly our prospective Grand Final opponents. He did do well twice against Sydney (4 goals in each game last season) and that may have been a factor (although they were not much of a team last season, either). Really, we recruited him because he's a strong tackling machine and ranked third in the AFL last season for pressure acts. He's the right profile to stiffen up a team that wants to press for back to back flags. With the benefit of hindsight, it may be that Collingwood isn't doing that (though we continue to hope) but you make these calls on the thinking at the time. Plainly, Collingwood was topping up to have another crack at a flag and Wright's view, at the time (reported earlier in this thread) was that Schultz was the best available trade/free agency target last year, so we targeted him.

He is an experienced player in a new side.
He would love to be trying to get loose and be a target and kick 4 goals , provide highlights for the crowd, and get slapped and hugged by everyone... but he is mature enough to forego all that and play his role.

We have Elliott and Hill predominantly playing closer to goal, he sits in no man's land shutting down across half forward. His roll takes him away from goal to fill gaps, find contests and provide extra support.

Dermie (SEN) also gave Crisp 1 vote for a quarter and a half of footy….

He’ll be fine. He’s three games in ffs. We’ve had quite a few more staple, much higher paid players do less in the first three weeks.
It's never as good/nor bad as it seems...
