Is Geelong a Premiership threat

Post by Magpietothemax »

One of the kids I teach who knows his footy very well reckons that Geelong will win the Premiership. The Cats' form recently has looked quite formidable. Are they the major threat?

It's a possibility. It would be silly to write them off.

We'll have a clearer picture of their premiership prospects after they've played Brisbane, us and Port Adelaide in the coming weeks.

I certainly rate the Cats as a realistic chance to win the flag. Very good team.

For mine, they're definitely a contender.

Will be very interesting to watch how they go in Brisbane.

I agree with Lloyd on this.

Geebung need to finish top 4. If they're outside the top 4, the others will have to stuff up for Geebung to win.

Happy to see them lose against Brisbane. Shows that they are not so good when they can't play at GMBHA.

Well, we also lost there. So too Melbourne.

But Geebung are still not in the 8. A lotta games to come at the Cattery, though.

The Cats need to find more outside of Danger, Cameron, HAwkins and Stewart to be a premiership threat.

Danger and Hawkins kicked 5 of their 7 goals vs Brisbane.
They have a lot of downhill skiers.

That is why they might well qualify in the 4.
GMBHA to Geelong is the Gabbba to Brisbane.
However, given their position on the ladder, and the importance of victories to them now, at the pointy end of the year, one would have expected a much more aggressive and desperate effort from them against Brisbane than what we saw. The final margin completely flattered them.
They are a definite chance of making top 4, due to the biased nature of their fixture, where they get so many games at GMBHA.
I actually would prefer them to be there than any of the other current occupants (except us!!!), because i think they pose far less of a threat than PA, Brisbane or Melbourne.

2023 one last chance saloon for the cats.

Methinks if they keep there aging players they will be in real need to rebuild in 2024.

Same as richmond i guess 2023 could end up been their last finals appearance for quite some time.

Simply they dont have any kids coming through.

Ha! Beaten at Kardinia Park by 15th-placed Fremantle. They could be a little off the pace this year - it's hard to win the Flag from 10th.

Today was a classic example of the above comments. Knowing how Geelong work, they will be on the hunt for available players from other clubs because they don’t seem to have many youngsters good enough to play seniors next season. They may not play finals for the next few years.
