Speaking of French movies, the US right are collectively losing their shit over one at the moment:

I suppose the irony that they all support a president who literally ran teen beauty pageants is lost on them.

Flicking through the movie options on Foxtel, came across the Robert Downey Jr remake of Dr Doolittle.

Really enjoyed it and had a few LOL moments which hasn't happened for a long time.

This was good. Probably one you'd like, David.

Then for a change of pace I watched a South Korean Zombie Apocalypse film that's trending on netflix called #Alive. As far as zombie apocalypse films go it was pretty good

Haven't watched it and really don't care to, as it wouldn't interest me.

What's the actual issue. Apart from the reference to inappropriate material in promotional material what's the issue. And what is the issue with the promotional material?

Basically, the Netflix poster made it look like some kind of Toddlers and Tiaras-style reality show when it’s actually a gritty coming-of-age film about a Senegalese-French girl from a conservative Muslim family who joins a dance group. The controversy over the film itself relates to the dance sequences, which are basically mimicking the hypersexualised moves of mainstream pop music videos ("twerking", etc.). It’s uncomfortable to watch, and that’s kind of the point; but many people who saw these clips out of context interpreted them as pure titillation and immediately concluded that the film itself was an exercise in child porn, ban this sick filth, etc. (a cause quickly latched onto by Republican politicians and the broader right who saw an opportunity to get one back at degenerate "liberals"). You can read a run-down of the controversy here: https://www.vulture.com/2020/09/netflix ... ained.html

And a very well-argued defence of the film here: https://www.jacobinmag.com/2020/09/cuti ... ench-movie

OMG, saw this some months ago...

You'll notice Bruce has really started to dial-it-in with his last few movies, he's looking like he is going through the motions.

The Aussie chick actress effectively made the movie watchable at best.

Anyone looking forward to going back to the cinema soon? I think it might be one of the things I'm missing the most right now.
