If injuries and COVID-19 suspensions weren't already enough an impending baby for one of our A grade midfielders is the final nail in our hopes for season 2020.

Exactly. Channel seven last night making it sound like something horrific has happened and then they say "SIDEBOTTOM LEAVING THE HUB..... to be with his wife who is due to give birth".
I'm just sick of it. They tease it like he's broken the law or something. If it was any other player from any other team, the story would be treated differently. The player would be deemed some kind of hero and Jaqui Felgate would be saying how sweet that player is.
Instead it's "Collingwood finals in doubt with breaking news".
Imagine, just imagine, if it was Tom Hawkins and his mrs... They'd be a full segment on it with Chris Scott saying how the boys admire and respect the great man and how they have been inspired and motivated by his decision and how they will be determined to win for him. It's be filled with praise.
Thing is, he stuffed up badly running amok half naked in Williamstown, broke covid rules, cost four games, now he wants more time off. Hawkins did none of that, or any other player. Hes leaving us now, while we are devastated with injury, we wont beat Carlton now, forget that. My mates son was serving in Afghanistan when his kid was born, didnt see her for months, plus footballers are extremely well paid.

Only Collingwood could pull off this trifecta.
Agreed, the perfect storm, perfect, we wont beat Carlton now, maybe not even Norf, he cannot be replaced. We are stuffed now, gone, this is the final nail, absolutely.

Yes, optimist but not against Caaaarlton, our arch enemies, who have nearly a full side, and are cock a hoop in confidence. THE game that will make or break our season. Brilliant. Just great.

Yes, Carlton haVe improved dramatically - they now field up to half an AFL-standard team some weeks. We still field between 14 and 16 AFL-standard players most weeks, so we still have the edge.
cheers to Sidey... I would be concerned for him if he did not move heaven and earth to be present for the birth of his kid.
Those who have put forward the comparison of soldiers absent in Afghanistan not being present for the birth of their child should really think twice. War time comparisons are utterly inappropriate and irrational.
Sidey is not responsible for the current catastrophic injury list, nor the form of our team. My full support to sidey.
As for our situation now, the game against NM is entirely winnable if we turn up to play. NM have lost the heart of their biological mechanism, namely cunnington, and are a shell without him. If we cannot win this game, then it is hard to see how we will recover enough confidence/energy to win another game any time soon.
The following week is what truly concerns me. We will be without: Adz, sidey, sier in the midfield. That is a massive hollowing out of the "deepest midfield" in the AFL. Who comes in for sidey? Our prime mids will be: Pendles, Tay, Wombat. Who steps in to fill the chasm? I think we are going to debut a midfielder, either Bianco or Rantall. A young guy is going to have to hold the fort until, if and when, our bigger, stronger mids can return.
Greenwood back soon is a real bonus, he can slot in on the backline, and also maybe rotate through the midfield.
As someone who was present at both of his children’s births. Two births that were far from perfect / regulation. A big fat F you to anyone who thinks it’s a simple process and the father (or significant other / support person) need not be there.
You’re either single, an idiot, a child, or an idiot.
