We'd have to be pretty stubborn to not do the deal for the sake of 246pts even if they're all handy.
I was just reading between the lines of what had been reported by the age and others. 246 pts might be all it takes for IQ and Kelly jnr
Really. us

FWIW pick 30/52 = 875pts. A bid on Quaynor at 15 = 890pts.

So what's going on over there?
Are they just like staring each other out with toothpicks in their gobs, with the occasional smug look at their watches, or phones, with feet up on the table, waiting for the other mob to crack?

Let it go and get him for even less next year...

So lets just say it all falls through and Beams is off the table (at this point I still think a deal will get done but yeah... contingency's), we obviously can't afford to keep pick 18 on the chance it might be wasted on Quaynor when we don't have to take that risk. We're not going to be able to get a lower pick before Quaynor as we have zero collateral - so what do we down trade it for?

Picks in the 20s and 30s totalling more points. I suspect we will be taking 4 or 5 picks to the draft. It is only the points attached to picks we take to the draft that matters (ie vacant list spots). We'll know that come 31 October.

^ What is the benefit of this (if we assume IQ has a bid before 18 and we go ahead and get him)?

e.g. just say pick 18 is traded for 35 and 38. Then it has basically made zero difference, right?? Instead of losing pick 18 to get IQ, we lose the picks 35 and 38, so our trade may as well not have happened.

I'm still not convinced by this "waste pick 18" line that everyone believes in, if we're just talking pure pick trading, at least. Anyone?

More points is the benefit as we have 3 NGA players (not just IQ) we will likely match a bid on plus a possible fourth.

We can always go into a points deficit for 2019, but that has implications.

If the powers that be think there is a good chance no-one will be bid on before 18, then they will keep it to try to steal another high end draftee.
