I've been a critic if Sidey for many years.
It was never about his ability he always had that in spades it was about bringing his best every week.
This season he's shown that consistency level required to be among the games best players.
His first goal got us on the board was magical 51m on the left and the angle
His second kept us 3 goals up late in the game and was like a perfectly timed dagger to them
P4S makes a very good point. 6 more games than Harvey at the same time says a lot about his durability
Congrats on a great milestone and splendid game your worthy of now being considered among the best players in the game

Some statistics to put his great career, so far, in context:
Of all Collingwood players since 1965, he is presently only 25th in total games played but:
11th in total Brownlow votes. If he manages 15, as he probably should this year, he will go past Tony Shaw and David Cloke and be tied with Peter Moore.
7th in total disposals (Buckley is 5th and Burns is 6th). Comfortably before the end of the season, he should rack up his 5,000th career disposal.
11th in total kicks and 5th in total handballs.
5th in total contested possessions.
9th in total inside 50s.
3rd in total tackles.
5th in goal assists.
8th in clearances.
In the whole of our great Club's history, only 34 players have pulled on the black and white more times than he has.
And his next goal will be his 150th.
Quick, trade him to Essendon for a late second-rounder, while he still has "some value".

What I would really like to know is what happened in 1964 that would have ruined your figures?Pies4shaw wrote:Some statistics to put his great career, so far, in context:

So, after the 2018 home and away season is complete, Sidey has topped 650 disposals in a season for the first time (and with at least two matches to go, he'll probably get to 700). He is the only Collingwood player to top 600, so far.
Along the way, he's had 25 or more disposals on 16 occasions.
He had 7 30+ disposal games in the first half of the season and 5 in the second half of the season. His 12 efforts of 30 or more is his best season return (previous best was 8 in 2015 and again last year, when he won the Copeland). He's also fourth in the team for tackles and, as a measure of his influence on games, has had 144 score involvements, more than any other Collingwood player.
Like some others, he fell away badly in the second half of the season as the injuries to other midfielders took their toll. So, he had just the 303 disposals in the last 11 games. That's a better return than his average 11 games from any other season he's played. But it's still not good enough. And his pack-marking is still poor.
A solid enough season from the lad, though, I suppose. We should be able to get a late third-rounder for that trade to Brisbane.

The Lions won't be parting with that valuable 3rd rounder for Sidey
On a serious note I don't think he's second half of the season has been bad at all.
I think his first half was so good that maintaining that level would be near on impossible
This has been his best season even without looking at the stats that closely
My biggest knock on his was his level of consistency.
Some weeks brilliant next week not so much.
He's certainly been easily in our top 10 players every match and more often than not top 5
My voting record in the GB this season has generally each week featured 2 names each week Grundy and Sidey and that's how I expect the copeland to finish (maybe not in that order but those 2 players)
https://www.footywire.com/afl/footy/ft_ ... 1=S&fid2=S
Direct comparison with Beams copeland winning year shows there's only a split hair between them in most stats
Beams did have 18 games of 30+ disposals which at the time was a record
Beams did have around 750 disposals for the season
Sidey leads Beams on the following stats (season comparison)
More handballs per game
More uncontested possessions per game
More marks per game
More frees against per game
More clangers per game
More 1% ers per game
More running bounces per game
Beams led Sidey on the following stats
More possessions per game
More kicks per game
More goals per game (doubled Sidey's average per game)
More tackles per game
More inside 50s per game
More goal assists per game
More contested disposals per game
More effective disposals per game
More contested marks per game
More clearances per game
More rebound 50's per game
More meters gained per game
More score involvements per game
But in fairness they actually play different roles in the side so stats don't tell the whole story
P4S I'm happy to admit I may have been harsh in seasons past on my appraisal of Sidey but this year in balance I think you'll find I've been very generous in my praise for him as well
If Grundy doesnt win the copeland then Sidey will be a worthy winner for sure

Time for some fun.
My emphasis added.eddiesmith wrote:Kennedy, Young, Ball. All got to fit in and Sidebottom should be first on the chopping block on his performance

His limp tackling and coughing the ball up with equally limp handball yesterday cost us big time!hermie wrote:Sidebottom is the softest player on our list, does my head in with weak tackle attempts and blokes just brush him off and kick goals,i know every team needs outside players and he is up there but as a leader sometimes you have to be the one to go and he consistently isn't the one
My emphasis added.Tannin wrote:HF: Howe, Cloke, Elliott

Sidebottom forward improves us two different ways.
(1) He is a genuine forward with huge talent, probably as good a forward as Elliott, maybe even better. He doesn't just have the ability to score, he's a running machine and a bloody good tackler. Very, very few sides will have the ability to shut down Elliott and Sidebottom, and they still have to worry about Swanny (or a resting mid while Swan is playing upfield). As a small forward, Sidebottom is an upgrade on any player we have in the side bar Elliott.
(2) It gets Sidebottom off the wing and replaces him with a more damaging player who is (a) a genuine natural wingman with genuine pace and marking ability and (b) has more kicking penetration into the forward 50. Aish, Varcoe, Oxley, Treloar, take your pick, any one of them is an upgrade on Sidebottom as a wingman.
This is the whole point of our midfield rebuild. It's not that we have too many mids now - we don't! - it's that the arrival of Greenwood, Aish, Treloar, Adams, De Goey and Crisp means that we can leave the primary midfield tasks in their capable hands and free up Swan, Sidebottom, and perhaps even Pendlebury to play specialist roles up forward and really hurt teams on the scoreboard.
inxs88 wrote:The following players should be put up for trade....
* Sidebottom: superfluous to our needs. With Treloar, Adams, Greenwood, Varcoe we have enough 180cm mids with flaws in their game. Steele would command a first round draft pick from a contender. 27 next year and ask yourself one thing: "is he going to get any better"? Thankyou for the service but he has become Dinky kick central in my opinion
