Players don't appreciate putting in all year and then being dumped for the finals just like at local level when the Reserves make it and the Seniors fail.

Hey MB, 2 quick Qs for you. 1) Is there anywhere that collates VFL player stats for the season? 2). Is there a rule about VFL finals eligibility when senior team is not playing (eg Richmond this week)? Thanks in advance.

1). You could try the "Footy Live" app. They're the mob who do the stats and they do collect season averages and game by game for all the major stats for the AFL listed players. Alternatively, you can manually go searching on the VFL website for the player you're after.

2). There actually is a rule for that scenario. It was an amendment introduced for last year's finals series to deal with the AFL's pre-finals bye. The new rule states that clubs in the situation Richmond are in this week can field anyone who didn't play AFL yesterday. Seeing as they only have 1 man in the injury list, that is a LOT of AFL-listed Tigers...

It actually makes very little difference to who's eligible and who isn't for Richmond, although unlike us they won't spell players or put them in for surgery due to the season ending.

Effect of that rule:

Short and Caddy would have been ineligible having played too many AFL matches, but are now eligible owing to them missing AFL selection last week. Caddy missed with a hamstring and it's highly unlikely he plays VFL. Short was dropped for form and has played the last 4 VFL games.

I was going to look at this, but you've done it quite splendidly, as always.

Ben Crocker will not play on Saturday, so too Mitch McCarthy (who rumour had it was making an unexpected charge to be fit), according to this week's From Lulie Street...

Couple quick things
I think it's vital for there development that Brown Kirby Daicos Cox Schade Aish Ramsay Wills that the coaches put them under extreme pressure and let them know there expected to really dominate the finals series to advance there chances of senior footy in 2018
I think Daicos and Brown showed they are going to be good players when there bodies develop they have the skills and courage just lack size and timing
Cox should be full of confidence and be a handful
Good luck to the boys and MB if things look to be going pear shape during the game I expect you to take over the coaching reigns
All this indeed, plus the fact it would be great to send out White with a bit of sorely deserved silverware

I'm inclined to disagree, I think a good final series would do him the world of good, with the caveat of course being that the physios think he is right to go physically.

We have a good team that can really give it a go, and I reckon we can make the prelim at least, and from there, who knows?

Thanks barrackers. I've not seen as much VFL as I would like this year with the reduced streaming coverage, but my impression is that we will have a pretty strong lineup and we seem to have been playing better towards the end of the season.

Looking forward to this Saturday (no AFL footy to compete with either) and hopefully we can knock them off.

If we don't spell too many we should field a stronger lineup than last time we met Richmond. While the margin then was just 2 points we dominated that game and should have smashed them. The worrying thing is Richmond will be much stronger this time around with their ins looking greater than ours.
