But now you've brought it up, I guess I should pass on the good news: I'm participating in this upcoming festival's "critics campus", an event run over the course of a week in which a small group of aspiring film critics get expert tuition, a free pass to see as many films as they like, a hotel room in the city and their daily reviews published in The Age. Needless to say, I can't wait.

I'm seeing Chronic and The Postman's White Nights. I wouldn't mind seeing the Arabian Nights trilogy but I don't have time.

That sounds like a pretty sweet gig you've got.

Nice one! You've gone for a couple of interesting titles there - The Postman's White Nights looks fascinating.

I'm in the same predicament re: The Arabian Nights. Just not sure that I'll find the time.

Some of the films I'm most looking forward to are Pasolini, The Forbidden Room and In the Shadow of Women. I have quite a few on my list, actually, but god knows how many I'm actually going to end up seeing.

Let me know if you end up booking anything else, in case our schedules cross over. :)

Or just the entire straight female population.

Actually, it was my favourite film critic who was talking it up:

Nope, I actually know for a fact he's not.

There was a film I saw a couple of years back that was set on a gay nudist beach and featured several scenes of unsimulated fellatio. That was one of my favourite films that year, and I'm mostly straight.

Sometimes good cinema is good cinema. :)

The Forbidden Room looks good but unfortuantly the times are no good for me. I'll let you know if I book anything else.
