Animes are Japanese cartoon series, usually aimed at an older audience (tho are suitable for older children also). They are often fantasy or science fiction based but really are just pretty good adventure stories. The animation is usually of a very high quality as is the story telling. Some series have gone on for absolute years, others are short runs. The one I'm watching, "Sword Art Online" is a relatively new one and is one of the hits of the year worldwide with anime fans.

I don't think its for everyone but if you like adventure or fantasy stories they are good value if you can handle the sub-titles.

PS i think after watching a few my Japanese has improved also. :)

I have recently watched the first two Series of "Game Of Thrones". Very entertaining but extremely violent.

Have enjoyed it so far and look forward to series three next year.

This is shown by HBO in the States and they have some excellent material.

You won't have to wait that long. Next series is due in March.

This week I have seen:

- Les Miserables
- The Hobbit

Enjoyed both.

I just watched "The Impossible". Based on a true story during the Thailand tsunami with Naomi Watts and Ewan McGregor.

Pack the tissues kids, and pack a LOT! I started crying 10 minutes in and continued until the end. I dare anyone not to be touched by this story.

It is, but it isn't if you know what I mean. As a Mum, pack even some more tissues. It will break your heart.

Just watched Zero. Dark. Thirty.

Highly, highly recommend it, even if we all know how it ends. Really well done. 9/10.

(And look out for the actor they cast to kill him in the end)

^ I've been wondering whether I should see that or not. It sounds pretty brutal and unpleasant, but any critical, even-handed depiction of Guantanamo Bay torture is probably worthwhile in its own right. It's funny that a lot of people have complained that it 'legitimises' torture, but surely the mere act of showing it delegitimises it? :?
